This proposal for a Dance and Music Conservatory seeks to reinterpret the “core” as a field of slanted columns interspersed throughout an infill site in SOMA, San Francisco. The columns integrate structure, circulation, and mechanical systems. The composition of these columns create different spaces and zones of activity within each floor. Floors also get manipulated to create interior landscapes for dance and music performance. The skin is composed of a pattern of cast glass, densified as a reflection of the proximity of the column to the exterior. The cast glass pattern is shifted at eye level to create a disorienting effect throughout the building.
